FREETA-α is a 3-stages emulsion and powder dissolving equipment. This device is made from high corrosion-resistant SS304 stainless steel material. It consists of 3 chambers with 3 motors. Each motor controls a separate impeller system in each chamber. This helps maximize polymer dissolution. Especially powdered form is insoluble.
Three compartments include a primary dissolving chamber, secondary dissolving chamber, and final dissolving chamber. The polymer solution is fed into the machine (for decanter centrifuge), or through reaction tank to create sludge precipitation (for others). All compartments have an interconnected valve, which helps to maintain a constant concentration of the polymer solution. They feed to sludge dewatering to work continuously.
Solubility of polymers
Polymers exist in three forms: solid, emulsion, and soluble solution. The soluble form is the result of dissolving powder and emulsion polymers. Among them, powder polymer is the most popular, because of its easy storage, preservation, and transportation convenience.
However, the characteristic of this polymer is that it is difficult to dissolve. That polymer is only soluble in water at very low concentrations. The stirring system creates whirlpools that interact with polymer particles many times. The complete wetting process covers the entire polymer particles with a cover of water. With this surrounding cover, the polymer will be more soluble in water. Without this, surface tension would limit the interaction of the polymer particles with water, making it more difficult for dissolving completely.
Advantages of FREETA-α
The main factor of the dissolution is agitation. If agitation is too slow, the polymer cannot dissolve in water. If it is too fast, the fibrous structure of the polymer will break down and inactivate. To solve this problem, the FREETA-α is designed to control the stirring motor. In addition, the structure with many chambers constant the retention time for the fibrous structure of the polymer solution. The aim is to dissolve completely.
The long fibrous structure of the polymer after dissolution must undergo a certain waiting time, for this twisted structure to be stretched. FREETA-α allows incubation in the optimal time from 30-60 minutes depending on the capacity of each model. Dissolved polymer solution has a high viscosity, no air bubbles, and no undissolved polymer particles. Concentration in the range 0.15 - 0.2%.
FREETA-α has many versions with diverse volumes to suit all needs of customers.
